Ingredients
Scale
For the Honey Lavender Syrup
- 1 teaspoon dried culinary lavender
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon honey
For the Latte
- 2 shots espresso or 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee
- 3/4 cup milk (any kind)
- 1 to 2 teaspoons honey lavender syrup
- Optional: additional honey and lavender buds for garnish
Instructions
- Make the Honey Lavender Syrup: In a small saucepan, bring the water and dried lavender to a simmer over medium heat. Once simmering, remove from heat and stir in the honey. Let the mixture steep for 5 minutes to infuse the lavender flavor, then strain out the lavender buds using a fine mesh sieve to yield a smooth syrup.
- Brew the Coffee: Prepare two shots of espresso or half a cup of strong brewed coffee according to your preferred method. Pour the brewed coffee into your serving mug.
- Add the Syrup: Stir 1 to 2 teaspoons of the honey lavender syrup into the hot coffee until fully combined, adjusting sweetness to your taste.
- Heat and Froth the Milk: Warm the milk until steaming but not boiling, then froth it using a milk frother or by whisking vigorously to create a creamy foam.
- Combine and Serve: Slowly pour the steamed milk over the coffee mixture, using a spoon to hold back the foam initially. Then, gently spoon the frothy foam over the top of the latte for a beautiful layered effect.
- Garnish and Enjoy: Optionally, drizzle a little extra honey or sprinkle some dried lavender buds on top for an elegant finish. Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
- Use any type of milk you prefer, including dairy or plant-based alternatives like almond or oat milk.
- The honey lavender syrup can be made in advance and refrigerated for up to a week.
- If you don’t have espresso, a strong brewed coffee will work just as well.
- For a stronger lavender flavor, increase the steeping time up to 10 minutes but be cautious as it may become slightly bitter.
- To froth milk without a frother, heat the milk and vigorously whisk for about 1-2 minutes until frothy.
