Description

Florida Shrimp Pie is a creamy, savory coastal classic featuring tender shrimp in a rich blend of heavy cream, sour cream, and melted cheese nestled in a flaky pie crust. Perfect for seafood lovers, this delightful pie combines fragrant garlic and Old Bay seasoning for authentic coastal flavor, baked to golden perfection for a comforting and elegant meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Seafood

  • 1 lb (450g) fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined

Pie Crust

  • 1 pre-made pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

Filling

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (such as cheddar or Monterey Jack)
  • 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning (or your favorite seafood seasoning)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Cooking

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking the shrimp)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the pie.
  2. Sauté garlic: In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Cook shrimp: Add the shrimp to the skillet, seasoning with Old Bay seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook until the shrimp turn pink and opaque, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. Prepare filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, sour cream, shredded cheese, and chopped green onions. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  5. Combine shrimp and filling: Fold the cooked shrimp into the creamy filling until evenly distributed.
  6. Blind bake crust (optional): If using a homemade or rolled pie crust, fit it into a 9-inch pie plate and pre-bake (blind bake) it for 8–10 minutes until slightly firm. Skip this step if using a store-bought crust that’s already in a tin.
  7. Fill crust: Pour the shrimp filling into the prepared crust and spread evenly.
  8. Bake the pie: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is lightly golden.
  9. Cool and serve: Allow the pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

  • Using sour cream or Greek yogurt is optional and can be substituted based on preference.
  • Blind baking the pie crust helps prevent sogginess but can be skipped if your crust is pre-baked.
  • Old Bay seasoning can be replaced with any seafood seasoning blend.
  • This pie is best served warm for optimal flavor and texture.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheated gently.
