Ingredients
Scale
Wonton Cups
- 12 wonton wrappers
- Cooking spray, for greasing muffin tin
Filling
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 jalapenos, diced (seeds and membranes removed for milder heat)
- 1/2 cup cooked ground beef or beef bacon bits
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Muffin Tin: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 12-cup standard muffin tin with cooking spray to ensure the wonton cups do not stick.
- Dice Jalapenos: Carefully dice fresh jalapenos, removing all seeds and white membranes for a milder kick to control the spice level in your filling.
- Mix Filling Ingredients: In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded Monterey Jack, shredded sharp cheddar, diced jalapenos, and the cooked ground beef or beef bacon bits. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir until the mixture is well combined and creamy.
- Form Wonton Cups: Take a wonton wrapper and gently press it into each cup of the prepared muffin tin, shaping it into a little cup that will hold the filling.
- Fill Wonton Cups: Using a small spoon or cookie scoop, spoon about 1 to 1.5 tablespoons of the jalapeno popper filling into each wonton cup, filling them evenly without overflowing.
- Bake: Place the muffin tin into the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the wonton wrappers are golden brown and crispy, and the filling is heated through.
- Cool and Serve: Once baked, carefully remove the muffin tin from the oven and allow the wonton cups to cool in the tin for about 5 minutes. Then gently lift them out with a spatula or fork. Serve warm for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- For extra spice, keep some jalapeno seeds in the filling or add a dash of hot sauce.
- To make this recipe vegetarian, omit the ground beef and use vegetarian bacon bits or additional cheese.
- These wonton cups can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving.
- Use a cookie scoop for even filling distribution and easier handling.
- Make sure the cream cheese is softened to ensure a smooth, creamy filling.
