Description

This Cranberry Margarita is a refreshing twist on the classic margarita, combining the tartness of fresh lime and cranberry juice with the smoothness of tequila and a hint of orange liqueur. Perfectly balanced with a touch of simple syrup and a festive rim of coarse salt or sugar, this cocktail offers a vibrant and festive drink ideal for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Drink

  • Ice
  • 2 ounces tequila
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1½ ounces pure unsweetened cranberry juice
  • ½ ounce Cointreau (or other orange liqueur)
  • 1 tablespoon simple syrup

For the Rim and Garnish

  • Simple syrup (for the rim)
  • Coarse salt or sugar (for rim)
  • Lime slice (for garnish)
  • Cranberries (for garnish)
  • Fresh mint sprig (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the shaker: Fill a cocktail shaker about halfway with ice to chill the ingredients effectively.
  2. Mix the cocktail: Pour in 2 ounces of tequila, 1 ounce of fresh lime juice, 1½ ounces of pure unsweetened cranberry juice, ½ ounce of Cointreau or other orange liqueur, and 1 tablespoon of simple syrup into the shaker. Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until the mixture is cold.
  3. Prepare the glass rim: Pour simple syrup onto a small plate and coarse salt or sugar onto another. Dip the rim of your margarita glass first into the syrup, then into the salt or sugar to create a decorative and flavorful rim.
  4. Serve the cocktail: Fill the prepared glass with ice. Strain the cold margarita mixture into the glass over the ice.
  5. Garnish and enjoy: Garnish the drink with a slice of lime, a few cranberries, and a sprig of fresh mint to add aroma and visual appeal.

Notes

  • Use fresh lime juice for the best flavor and brightness.
  • Adjust simple syrup amount to taste if you prefer a sweeter or more tart cocktail.
  • Substitute the orange liqueur with triple sec if Cointreau is not available.
  • For a festive presentation, consider using frozen cranberries as garnish.
  • Rim salt can be replaced with sugar for a sweeter edge depending on your preference.
