Ingredients
Scale
Pasta
- 225 g penne pasta
Seafood
- 450 g large shrimp, raw, deveined, tails removed
- 1 teaspoon blackened seasoning (for shrimp)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Meat
- 450 g top sirloin steak, cut into 2.5 cm cubes
- 1 tablespoon blackened seasoning (for steak)
Sauce
- 57 g unsalted butter
- 1 small yellow onion, diced (about 80 g)
- 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
- 476 ml heavy whipping cream
- 200 g parmesan cheese, freshly grated
- 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
Garnish
- Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
- Cook Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over medium-high heat. Add penne pasta and cook until al dente according to package instructions. Reserve 240 ml of pasta water before draining the rest. Set the cooked pasta aside.
- Cook Shrimp: Season the shrimp evenly with 1 teaspoon of blackened seasoning. Heat vegetable oil in a large 33 cm skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add shrimp and cook for 1–2 minutes on each side until just opaque. Remove shrimp to a plate and cover to keep warm.
- Cook Steak: Season the steak cubes evenly with 1 tablespoon of blackened seasoning. Increase skillet heat to high and add unsalted butter. Once butter starts to melt, add steak cubes to the skillet. Sear for 1–2 minutes per side or until browned and medium-rare. Transfer the steak to the plate with shrimp and keep covered.
- Sauté Onions and Garlic: Reduce heat to medium. Add diced onion to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 3–5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute until fragrant.
- Make Alfredo Sauce: Pour in heavy cream and add 60–120 ml of the reserved pasta water to the skillet. Add grated parmesan cheese, additional blackened seasoning, kosher salt, and black pepper. Stir constantly until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce slightly thickens.
- Toss Pasta in Sauce: Return the drained penne pasta to the skillet and gently toss to coat the pasta evenly with the Alfredo sauce. Add additional reserved pasta water little by little to reach your desired sauce consistency.
- Combine and Serve: Top the coated pasta with the cooked shrimp and steak pieces. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve immediately for a rich and flavorful meal.
Notes
- You can adjust the amount of blackened seasoning based on your preferred spice level.
- Reserve pasta water is essential for loosening the sauce to achieve the perfect creamy texture.
- Ensure not to overcook shrimp and steak to maintain their tenderness.
- This dish pairs well with a crisp green salad or garlic bread.
- For a lower fat option, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half but expect a less rich sauce.
