Description

This American Goulash recipe is a hearty and comforting one-pot meal featuring ground beef, tomatoes, and elbow macaroni simmered together with flavorful seasonings. It’s a quick and easy dish perfect for a family dinner, topped with melted cheddar cheese and fresh parsley for added richness and freshness.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brown the Meat and Sauté Aromatics: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked and no longer pink. Drain excess fat if necessary. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent and fragrant.
  2. Add Tomato Mixtures and Seasonings: Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, paprika, sugar, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine all the flavors evenly.
  3. Add Pasta and Simmer: Add the elbow macaroni to the skillet. Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover, and let the mixture simmer until the pasta is tender and has absorbed much of the liquid, approximately 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  4. Optional Cheese and Garnish: If using, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top. Cover the skillet and allow the cheese to melt for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
  • For a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes or hot sauce.
  • Make sure to stir occasionally to prevent the macaroni from sticking to the bottom of the skillet.
  • Leftovers store well in the fridge for 3-4 days and can be reheated on the stovetop or microwave.
  • Adding vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms can enhance nutrition and flavor.
